For Schools and Special Education Practitioners

Led by Dr. Tammy Ellis-Robinson (left) and Dr. Miriam Ortiz (right), and supported by the collective expertise of Aletheia members, we will develop an innovative professional development (PD) framework grounded in evidence-based strategies and research-driven methodologies. Together with our members, we will create a PD approach that leverages our members’ collective knowledge and expertise and what is known about effective PD. Through this framework, we will train interested members, collaborate to design PD across diverse instructional practices, and ultimately extend our services to the broader educational community. Our goal is to empower educators and drive positive outcomes for all students.

Aletheia Professional Development Initiative

Phase 1:

• Review the literature and outline pillars of what professional development delivery frameworks should include. 
• Send out a call for frameworks that align with the literature. 
• Present these frameworks to a committee of experts that will help us to identify the pillars of the framework.
• Design an expert supported model framework and create a rubric for evaluating submissions of PD providers, guided by the model framework.

Phase 2:

• Send out a call for professional development providers and projects.
• Evaluate submissions using the rubric created in Phase 1.
• Create a repository of approved providers and projects.

Phase 3:

• Recruit a cohort of scholars that will go through a training program on the ‘model’ framework of PD.
  • These scholars will then move into a mentor/leadership position where they can then support future scholars who are learning and going through the training program.
• Develop a program to train PD providers on how to deliver professional development that aligns with the approved frameworks.
• Provide resources for organizations wanting to use these frameworks and build their programs.
